Community Service

Over 3500 people in 33 urban and rural poor communities in Kenya have benefited from community service projects designed and implemented by Akili Dada scholars.

Community service plays a prominent role in Akili Dada’s programming and remains a pillar of our leadership-training program. During each school holiday (3 times a year) Akili Dada scholars are required to assess her community’s needs and then design and implement a fitting community service project.

The community service requirement ensures that our scholars remain rooted in their communities and in touch with local needs. By designing and implementing community service projects three times a year, our scholars learn how to discern their community’s needs then implement locally appropriate community service projects in response. Through these requirements they learn to mobilize support for their efforts as well as learn how to lead diverse teams in achieving a common goal.
