Our Impact
Meet some of the Akili Dada Scholars!
- Faith: Raised in one of the toughest slums in Kenya, Faith has overcome extraordinary obstacles and is paving the way as a true leader. She recently co-founded a social network platform for Kenyan youth looking to give back to the community. Read Faith’s incredible story.
- Gloria: Painfully shy and feeling lost at a time of great family tragedy, Gloria became an Akili Dada scholar in 2008. Now in medical school and a mentor to Dadas still in high school, she worked as an intern at our Nairobi office from June to October 2011. Read her blog post about life as an Akili Dada intern.
- Sharon: On the verge of dropping out and constantly worrying about how she would stay in school when she was accepted to become an Akili Dada scholar in 2006, Sharon is now a student at Vassar College in the United States and happily gives back by mentoring other young students and holding positions of leadership on campus. One of the first Akili Dada scholars, here’s Sharon’s story.
